I am volunteering this summer in Australia but need to find funding to get there...any suggestions?

Through the university I attend, I am going on a month long venture to Australia to partake in numerous volunteer projects. The total cost of the trip is $6,000...I cannot come up with all that however and was hoping I could find alternate funding oppsed to having to take out a loan.
