How can my own country be an independent American state?

Greetings! I am from the Bahamas and I know in my own heart that my country belongs to the United States, yet some American resources instate my country to be under your domain? (i.e. of the British Commonwealth)? Why, even some users of Yahoo! insisted my country is of your kin. I am a Unitarian and my religion originated in England itself. Please help me, for my religion, for my country, and for the United States. I am also an American, and since I honor the Founding Fathers, I do not wish to risk treason. I also do not wish for the British Commonwealth to be disenfranchised beause of it. I appreciate your efforts into resolving this matter. Is this a matter of an American who insists he is native the Bahamas or is this a matter of fantasy regarding the United States. If an American insists I am obsessed with the Bahamas, I would respond, "To the contrary, my dear. I am obsessed with the United States." Please help me answer the question, for the British Crown is at stake.
